In the Beginning

I’m Greg, welcome to Crescent Bread. I guess we all have some sort of story how we got in to one thing or the other. I would like to share my bread/baking journey. I have always liked good quality bread, but I found it hard to find sometimes while I was in college. I started experimenting baking my own “commercial” loaves just for fun. Well it turns out I found this really rewarding so I kept doing it.

To be quite honest I don’t think I can properly pinpoint the moment sourdough showed up on my radar, but I had a friend who was already baking it at the time and he gave me some starter.

I guess part of the obsession with baking or maybe cooking in general is the process, obviously the reward is good too, but the process is addicting. Pulling a golden brown, crusty loaf out of the oven is something else. Plus being able to do it without buying yeast is really satisfying. Even if you don’t like your sourdough super tangy, I think the complex flavours that are found in a slow fermented bread are incredible.

I like to think that I was in to sourdough “before it was cool”. Basically before covid haha, and I loved that it brought so many people to the baking world. I really enjoyed sharing my knowledge with others who were just getting in to baking, sharing the skills I had built up over the years, and basically just talking about sourdough and baking. My time had come! I have wanted to start a blog/site for a while to share with other my love for baking, and hopefully it will teach a few people something as well allow me to connect with more like minded people.
